PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Police say a pedestrian was struck and killed by a light-rail train in southeast Portland. Police say the person was trying to cross the tracks in a restricted area between loading platforms when the crash happened yesterday afternoon. The person’s gender, age and other information were not immediately released.

MCMINNVILLE, Ore. (AP) – A McMinnville man has been arrested following a single-car crash in Whiteson that killed his female passenger over the weekend. Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office says 42-year-old Jose Manuel Acevedo was arrested on investigation of drunk driving and criminal negligent homicide. Bail was set at $155,000.

GRESHAM, Ore. (AP) – Gresham Police say a 58-year-old homeless man who was lying in the street was run over by a vehicle early yesterday morning. Police say the man could not be revived and an autopsy will determine the exact cause of his death. Investigators don’t know yet whether the man was alive at the time he was hit. Police say the sedan driver is cooperating with the investigation. No citations have been issued.

ASHLAND, Ore. (AP) – The Ashland Kiwanis says someone broke into its trailer and stole a large amount of candy the club planned to sell as part of its annual fundraiser. The Daily Tidings reports that the door to the trailer was taken off its hinges. It’ll cost the club about $1,100 to repair the trailer and replace the candy. Money from the candy sales help pay for Kiwanis projects that benefit children’s and other programs.
