PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Hillsboro police say they have arrested a TriMet bus driver on suspicion of drunken driving after passengers reported that he had been operating the bus erratically. The Oregonian reports that Michael Bottcher was arrested Sunday. Lt. Mike Rouches says an officer had pulled over the bus driver and asked Bottcher to perform field sobriety tests, which he failed.
BLY, Ore. (AP) – The son of a man who was found dead at an intersection in Bly last week has been charged with murder. The Herald and News reports that the 17-year-old was indicted Monday and arraigned on charges of murder and felon in possession of a firearm. He is accused of killing his father, 47-year-old Dustin Lee Townsend. Both the teen and his older brother were arrested last week.
CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) – Oregon State University’s president has announced plans to hire a chief diversity officer in response to students’ concerns about racism on campus. The Corvallis Gazette-Times reports President Ed Ray also said OSU would create an office to oversee the university’s diversity inclusion programs.
SEASIDE, Ore. (AP) – Officials say the cause of a fire in Seaside that destroyed three homes and damaged another on Sunday is most likely electrical. The Oregonian reports the fire caused up to $3 million in damage. Firefighters say that the fire was contained about five hours after the initial call. High winds, downed power lines and a failed natural gas line hampered firefighters.
