PENDLETON, Ore. (AP) – A Umatilla man convicted in the 2014 deaths of three Pasco people in a cornfield has been sentenced to life in prison. The East Oregonian reports that Francisco Resendez Miranda was found guilty in November of three counts of aggravated first-degree murder. Court documents show the killings may have been out of retaliation for a break-in at his apartment.
ALBANY, Ore. (AP) – An Oregon City man charged with the sexual abuse of two children has been sentenced to more than seven years in jail. The Democrat-Herald reports that 40-year-old John Westley Cook was sentenced yesterday after pleading no contest to two counts in a plea agreement with prosecutors. Police arrested Cook after one of the victims reported the abuse to her mother.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Authorities say they have arrested six Seattle-area suspects in what they are calling a theft ring that victimized 110 people across seven states. The Oregonian reports five adults and a 15-year-old girl were arrested Nov. 29 in West Linn. The suspects are accused of buying more than $26,000 in gift cards in the stolen credit card scheme.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Damian Lillard scored 30 points and the Portland Trail Blazers beat New Orleans 105-101 last night, their seventh straight win over the Pelicans. Gerald Henderson added 19 points off the bench for the Blazers. He matched his career high with four 3-pointers.
