THE DALLES, Ore. (AP) – Drivers in some areas of central and eastern Oregon will be allowed to travel at higher speeds in March. KGW-TV reports that the speed limit will rise from 65 mph to 70 mph on Interstate 84 between The Dalles and the Idaho line. Speed limits will also go up on other highways in central and eastern Oregon, including portions of U.S. 20, U.S. 95 and OR 78.

MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) – Police say an off-duty officer shot and killed a knife-wielding suspect in the parking lot of a Medford oil-change shop after a foot chase. The Mail Tribune reports that police have not yet identified the officer or the man who was fatally shot yesterday. Police say the suspect held the knife “in an aggressive manner” before he was gunned down.

FOREST GROVE, Ore. (AP) – Authorities say they have arrested two suspects in the shooting death of a Corvallis man outside a restaurant. KATU-TV reports that Michael Deyette II and his girlfriend Brooklyn Sheppard were both arrested yesterday after police and a SWAT team responded to a home in Forest Grove. The couple is facing charges in the death of Jason Williams, who was killed the Corvallis restaurant Friday.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Portland Police say a pedestrian was struck and killed as he was trying to cross Interstate 5 south of downtown Portland. Police say the man suffered serious injuries and died at the scene. His identity has not been released. The driver who struck the man remained at the scene.
