SALEM, Ore. (AP) – A state judicial fitness panel has recommended the removal of a Marion County judge who came under scrutiny last year for refusing to perform same-sex marriages based on his religious beliefs. The Commission on Judicial Fitness and Disability accuses Marion County Judge Vance Day of discrimination based on sexual orientation and other ethical violations.

CANNON BEACH, Ore. (AP) – Cannon Beach’s former fire chief has filed a lawsuit over his firing in October. The Daily Astorian reports Mike Balzer claims the Cannon Beach Rural Fire Protection District’s board retaliated against him over critical comments made by his wife on social media. An attorney representing the fire district’s board could not be reached for comment.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The Clatskanie People’s Utility District has paid nearly $3 million to six fired employees who claimed they were sexually harassed by a manager and retaliated against for reporting the abuse. The Oregonian reports the group has filed federal lawsuits claiming misconduct by two former managers, one of whom was convicted of harassment in 2014.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Authorities say they have arrested a Florida man who sexually assaulted a 12-year-old Portland girl who he met through social media. The Oregonian reports police say that 42-year-old Sergio Zambrano lied about his age and convinced the girl to send him sexually explicit photos of herself before flying to Portland to meet her.
