BURNS, Ore. (AP) – Federal and state law officers arrested the leaders of an armed group occupying a national wildlife refuge, during a traffic stop along a highway in Oregon’s frozen high country that prompted gunfire and left one man dead. Militant leader Ammon Bundy and his followers were reportedly heading to a community meeting.

BURNS, Ore. (AP) – An Arizona rancher was reportedly killed when authorities arrested the leaders of an armed group that had been occupying a national wildlife refuge in Oregon. Arianna Finicum told the Oregonian newspaper that her father, Robert LaVoy Finicum, was killed. Authorities have said only that an adult male was killed.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Authorities say two men have been arrested following the discovery of five rifles at a homeless camp in Portland. KOIN-TV reports 24-year-old Jordan Clark and 42-year-old Eric Nunez appeared in court Monday. Police say the firearms had been reported stolen in Clackamas County.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Construction crews have unearthed the bones of a mammoth and other ice age mammals in the end zone of Oregon State University’s Reser Stadium. The Oregonian reports workers found a mammoth femur and bones from a bison and camel. OSU associate professor of anthropology Loren Davis says it’s not unusual to find ancient bones in Willamette Valley.
