SALEM, Ore. (AP) – The Oregon House has passed a bill to protect the identity of the officer who fatally shot refuge standoff spokesman Robert “LaVoy” Finicum in January. The Oregonian reports representatives approved allowing a judge to bar for 90 days the disclosure of the name of an officer who uses deadly force. The bill heads to the Senate for consideration. Critics of the bill say it could protect officers from public scrutiny.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Federal prosecutors say investigators combing through an Oregon wildlife refuge occupied for nearly six weeks by armed ranchers discovered firearms, explosives and trenches dug near artifacts. A court filing also says the FBI is concerned numerous vehicles might be booby-trapped.

BEND, Ore. (AP) – Police say a Bend woman used a pillow and her body to smother her grandmother to death. KTVZ-TV reports that 45-year-old Angela Judd has been arrested for the Dec. 31 death of 92-year-old Nada Bodholdt. A woman at Judd’s home told KTVZ that the family does not want to comment on the case.

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) – Washington State University researchers raised eyebrows in 2014 with a study that said killing problem wolves can actually increase livestock attacks the following year by disrupting the social structure of packs. Now, a study from the University of Washington offers a different conclusion. The Spokesman-Review reports their work indicated that killing wolves that prey on livestock can lead to a short-term increase in attacks. But the year after the wolves were killed, livestock attacks went down. WSU researchers are criticizing the new conclusions.
