SALEM, Ore. (AP) – An Oregon State Police trooper was thrown from his parked patrol car along Interstate 5 near Salem yesterday afternoon when another motorist struck his vehicle from behind. The Marion County Sheriff’s office says the motorist swerved to the shoulder to avoid a collision, striking the patrol car. No one was seriously injured.
EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – A former Deschutes County sheriff’s captain is pleading not guilty to charges that he stole more than $200,000 in taxpayer funds. The Register-Guard reports 45-year-old Scott Beard is accused of using money from a drug task force to pay for breast implants for another sheriff’s employee and for personal purchases.
PENDLETON, Ore. (AP) – A Morrow County man is accused of kidnapping and assaulting a woman, who suffered a serious head injury. The East Oregonian reports that 44-year-old Travis Thomas entered not guilty pleas to the charges yesterday. Authorities say Thomas had a previous relationship with the woman.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Portland police say they won’t be able to hold their youth summer camp this year due to a shortage of officers. The Oregonian reports the Portland Police Bureau has operated the one-week camp for about 25 years. The bureau currently has 42 officer vacancies.
