Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – A Linn County man facing federal charges that he threatened to kill an Albany police officer in a post on Facebook has pleaded guilty and is sentenced to 1½ years in prison. The Register-Guard reports that Timothy Fleming was arrested Jan. 30 after his sister called Albany police to report that he had posted the threats on his Facebook page and a photo of him holding a gun.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – An Oregon man charged with shooting and killing his ex-girlfriend while she was moving out of their apartment is relying on an insanity defense. The Oregonian reports that Daniel Wyant is charged with murder in the 2014 death of Monica Van Laer. His Washington County trial resumes today. Prosecutors say Wyant set out to kill Van Laer because she had broken up with him.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – A Portland man accused of distributing powdered fentanyl and other drugs that led to several overdoses and two deaths in North Dakota has pleaded guilty in federal court. Authorities say Brandon Hubbard sold the drugs on a website only accessible through a router designed to conceal a user’s location. Hubbard faces a maximum penalty of life in prison and a mandatory minimum sentence of 20 years.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Thousands of small jellyfish-like animals have washed up on Seaside beach and other areas along the northern Oregon coast. The Oregonian reports that Velella velella (vuh-lell-uh vuh-lell-uh), also called “by the wind sailors,” started lining up on the beaches near Warrenton and Seaside this week. The purple and blue sea creatures normally spend their time floating along the sea’s surface. When warm water and storms draw them near shore, the wind blows them onto beaches, where they die in piles.
