PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The city of Portland has released video of a meeting where members of a commission tasked with helping Portland issue more contracts to women and minorities declared they had no confidence in the city. The video of the Feb. 18 meeting wasn’t released until Wednesday in response to questions from The Oregonian. The decision to keep the video and written minutes from the meeting from the public was made by the commission’s chairman, Bryant Enge.

SEATTLE (AP) – Haggen has announced it will close four stores in Oregon and Washington it had hoped to sell or keep open. The Oregonian reports 263 people will be laid off as the bankrupt grocer shutters stores in Happy Valley and West Linn in Oregon and in Burien and Federal Way in Washington. A layoff notice filed with the state of Oregon Wednesday says the stores will close by May 9.

GRANTS PASS, Ore. (AP) – A Jackson County shelter that houses homeless children has received funding from the state to expand its operations in Grants Pass. KTVL-TV reports that the Hearts with a Mission shelter plans to open in the city this spring. Grants Pass School District assistant superintendent Kirk Kolb says he hopes the shelter will help the city’s growing number of homeless children.

LAS VEGAS (AP) – Ivan Raab scored two big baskets late to finish with 21 points and grabbed 15 rebounds, helping No. 24 California outlast Oregon State 76-68 last night in the Pac-12 quarterfinals. Bears will face No. 12 Utah in the semifinals tonight. Oregon State managed to keep it close despite playing without its injured second-leading scorer Tres Tinkle. One reason was Derrick Bruce. The shifty freshman guard, who had never scored more than 11 points, had 25 against the Bears.
