MULTNOMAH COUNTY, Ore. (AP) – Three former employees at Les Schwab are seeking an additional $15 million in punitive damages in a lawsuit claiming the tire chain pushed unneeded tires, wipers and other vehicle supplies on customers. The Oregonian reports two of the three people in the suit say a manager at the Clackamas Les Schwab demanded they up-sell every customer or tell them they needed services such as windshield wipers, brakes or shocks, even if they didn’t.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The Oregon Justice Department says it has decided to investigate one of the complaints it received about Grant County Sheriff Glenn Palmer. The sheriff twice met with members of the group that seized a wildlife refuge in Eastern Oregon, prompting complaints that he was supporting lawbreakers.
EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – Oregon officials say they are reminding unaffiliated voters that they still have time to register with a political party and participate in the May primary election. The Register-Guard reports there are 540,000 unaffiliated voters statewide. The state will send mailers that lay out the options for those voters now that the Independent Party has changed its primary voting rules.
LAS VEGAS (AP) – Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy lost his bid for release from jail ahead of trial on federal charges stemming from an armed standoff against government agents two years ago. A federal magistrate judge pointed to grand jury findings that Bundy incited and led a gunpoint standoff to stop federal agents from rounding up cattle near his ranch in 2014.
