SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — Dillon Brooks scored 25 points and lead the Ducks to 69-64 win over No. 8 seed Saint Joseph’s in the second round last night. Oregon was carrying the banner for the rest of the Pac-12 after the conference posted a collective dud on the opening weekend of the of the NCAA Tournament. Five teams were sent home in the first round and Utah was routed in the round of 32.
CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) — Jamie Weisner scored 23 points as Oregon State took control after halftime to beat St. Bonaventure 69-40 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament last night. Sydney Wiese added eight points, six rebounds and six assists, Ruth Hamblin had 16 rebounds and Deven Hunter scored 11 points for the Beavers. Oregon State advances to play DePaul on Saturday in the Sweet 16.
DALLAS (AP) — Dirk Nowitzki scored 40 points and Deron Williams had 31 points and 16 assists, leading the Dallas Mavericks to a 132-120 overtime win over the Portland Trail Blazers yesterday. Nowitzki and Williams capped season-high scoring efforts with the first 11 points in overtime. Williams made a tiebreaking 3-pointer before Nowitzki scored eight straight points.
PEORIA, Ariz. (AP) — Backup infielder Jose Ramirez hit two home runs and the Cleveland Indians topped the Seattle Mariners 3-1 yesterday. Ramirez hit a solo shot in the first inning and a two-run homer in the third against Wade Miley. Indians starter T.J. House, who projects as a long reliever, had a solid outing, throwing four scoreless innings. He gave up three hits.
