Police investigate shooting between cars on Interstate 5
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Police say a man was found injured after calls came in reporting people in two vehicles were shooting at each other on Interstate 5 in North Portland.
Portland police say while they were receiving reports of the freeway shooting, another shooting was reported in the area. Police say they believe the two incidents were connected.
Responding officers say they found a heavily damaged car with evidence that someone shot at it. Police say they also located an injured man who was conscious and alert. Police said the type and extent of his injuries were unknown. He was taken to a hospital.
Police were searching for another vehicle involved in the incident, describing it as a silver sedan that could have damage from hitting the other vehicle as well as bullet holes.

PORTLAND POLLUTION-FINE
Portland company fined for illegal dumping
(Information from: The Oregonian/OregonLive, http://www.oregonlive.com)
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A Portland company at the center of air pollution concerns faces a $300 fine for dumping shards of glass into city sewers.
The Oregonian/OregonLive reports that the fine for Bullseye Glass was issued earlier this month. Bureau of Environmental Services spokesman Linc Mann says the company has told the city it does not intend to appeal.
Records show Bullseye illegally dumped large shards of glass in April.
The discovery reportedly came after city inspectors found high levels of selenium and sediment in the sewer where Bullseye’s storm water drains. Selenium can be toxic to fish and other aquatic life in high amounts.
City officials are also requiring Bullseye to have the sewer system cleaned and to install pollution controls to prevent glass and metals from getting inside.

MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) — A Medford teacher accused of having sexual contact with students and sending them explicit text messages now faces additional charges alleging he has exchanged such messages with students since 2014.
The Mail Tribune reports Richard Fay has pleaded not guilty in the case to several charges, including using a child in a display of sexually explicit conduct and luring a minor.
He was arrested June 1 on child pornography charges after a 17-year-old student said they had been sexting.
Court documents show the suspect sexted one victim on or between Sept. 1, 2014, and June 2. The suspected sexting and physical activity with another student allegedly occurred between February and June.
The Medford School District has removed Fay from the classroom pending the outcome of the investigation.

Judge OKs class action for children in deportation hearings
SEATTLE (AP) — A federal judge has approved class-action status for a lawsuit over whether poor children are entitled to lawyers during deportation hearings.
The order by U.S. District Judge Thomas Zilly in Seattle comes in a case brought by the American Civil Liberties Union and immigration advocates. It challenges the government’s failure to provide lawyers.
The plaintiffs in the case are now expected to represent thousands of children throughout the West who are under 18, can’t afford legal representation, and are potentially eligible for asylum or U.S. citizenship.
Matt Adams, the legal director of the Northwest Immigrant Rights Project, said in a statement Monday that under the ruling, the merits of the practice will be argued in a single case, and the government will have to defend a system that, in his words, “pits unrepresented children against trained federal prosecutors.”
HOME INVADER SHOOTING
Woman fatally shoots intruder in her child’s bedroom
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Police in Portland, Oregon, say a 33-year-old woman returning home with her two young children shot and killed an intruder in one of her children’s bedrooms.
Police say the woman cooperated with investigators after the shooting early Sunday and wasn’t arrested. The woman and her 5 and 10-year-old children weren’t hurt.
A neighbor told Portland TV station KOIN-TV that the home had been vacant for some time before the family moved in and that squatters were periodically in the home.
Police have identified the 59-year-old man who was fatally shot as David Daniel McCrary of Gresham, Oregon. The Oregon State Medical Examiner determined that McCrary died of a single gunshot wound.
Detectives say they haven’t been able to determine why McCrary broke into the home, but they noted a recent report indicating he may have been struggling with mental health issues.
