HOME RUN DERBY
Giancarlo Stanton beats Frazier in All-Star Home Run Derby
SAN DIEGO (AP) — Giancarlo Stanton of the Miami Marlins has won the All-Star Home Run Derby with an impressive display of power that bested defending champion Todd Frazier of the Chicago White Sox.
Stanton hit 24 homers in the first round to eliminate the Seattle Mariners’ Robinson Cano, who had 7, and followed that with 17 in the semifinals to knock out Mark Trumbo (14) of the Baltimore Orioles. He then hit 20 home runs in the final round to Frazier’s 13.
Stanton hit a record 61 homers in three rounds Monday night at Petco Park, including a shot estimated at 497 feet. The three-time All-Star is not on the NL roster for Tuesday night’s game after batting .233 with 20 homers and 50 RBIs before the break.
Cano is on the roster for the American League squad for tonight’s All-Star game.

Tyson Gay gets chance to recapture relay medal
EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — Sprinter Tyson Gay will be going to the Olympics, where he’ll have a chance to help the U.S. win a relay medal more than two years after his doping case cost the team its silver from the 2012 Games.
The 33-year-old Gay, who dominated sprints for a time before Usain Bolt came onto the scene, struggled at Olympic trials, finishing fifth in the 100 and sixth in the 200.
But U.S. coaches chose him Monday for the relay team, meaning he could run in the Olympic preliminaries or the final.
Gay tested positive for a banned substance in 2013, and accepted a one-year ban that also cost the U.S. its relay silver from London.
Others added to the relay pool included 2009 U.S. champion Mike Rodgers and Francena McCorory, the 2014 world indoor champion at 400 meters.

Tech leaders urge Silver to consider moving NBA All-Star
NEW YORK (AP) — Technology industry leaders have urged NBA Commissioner Adam Silver to move the All-Star Game out of Charlotte unless a North Carolina law that limits anti-discrimination protections for lesbian, gay and transgender people is repealed “in very short order.”
In a letter sent Friday and obtained by The Associated Press, the executives tell Silver that putting fans at risk of discrimination would “send a terrible message about who the NBA is and what it values as an organization, and set a dangerous precedent.”
The All-Star weekend is set for next February. Silver has resisted setting any deadlines for when the league might act, believing positive dialogue is ongoing that he hopes would lead to changes in the HB2 law. However, he has said a decision probably would have to be made this summer.
The letter was sent by SV Angel founder and co-managing partner Ron Conway and includes signatures from executives from companies such as Google, Reddit, PayPal, Lyft and Pinterest.
NBA owners are holding their annual offseason meeting this week in Las Vegas.
