Lind’s pinch-hit homer in 9th lifts Seattle past White Sox

SEATTLE (AP) — Adam Lind hit a three-run pinch-hit homer in the ninth inning to give the Seattle Mariners a comeback and walk-off 4-3 win over the Chicago White Sox last night.

The Mariners handed the Sox their fifth consecutive loss, with Chicago wasting a dominant performance by Chris Sale. David Rollins (1-0) pitched the ninth inning for the win.

Seattle, which had managed just one hit in eight innings off Sale, rallied against closer David Robertson (0-2), who had recorded 13 straight save opportunities.

HOUSTON-PAC-12

Houston AD met with Pac-12 commissioner on West Coast trip

UNDATED (AP) — University of Houston athletic director Hunter Yurachek met last month with Pac-12 Commissioner Larry Scott while on a trip to the West Coast as the school tries to attract interest from Power Five conferences.

A conference spokesman yesterday confirmed the meeting and a Houston spokesman says Yurachek used the meeting to discuss myriad topics related to the future of college athletics.

The Pac-12 has given no indication it is looking to expand from its current 12 members.

Houston and other schools in the AAC have primarily been pitching the Big 12, reaching out to that conference’s board over the past year.

The Big 12 has been considering expansion for months and still has not made a decision. The conference is holding media days in Dallas this week and its presidents are scheduled to meet today, with expansion on the agenda.
