Zunino, Seager power Mariners to 7-5 win over Yankees

SEATTLE (AP) — Mike Zunino and Kyle Seager each hit a three-run homer and Nelson Cruz added a solo shot as the Seattle Mariners rallied to beat the New York Yankees 7-5 Monday night.

Zunino, recalled from from Triple-A Tacoma on July 20, answered in the bottom half with his ninth home run — off Anthony Swarzak (1-2) — to put Seattle ahead 6-5. Cruz added a solo homer, his 32nd, in the eighth.

Nick Vincent (3-3) retired all three batters he faced, and rookie Edwin Diaz survived a shaky ninth for his 10th save in 10 chances.

COWBOYS-RUNNING BACKS

Elliott near debut, Dunbar back as Dallas backfield deepens

FRISCO, Texas (AP) — Dallas rookie Ezekiel Elliott appears set for his preseason debut against Seattle after the running back taken fourth overall by the Cowboys missed most of training camp with a hamstring injury.

Lance Dunbar was cleared medically this week following major knee surgery last year, and free agent Alfred Morris is shaping up as a solid insurance policy.

The Dallas running game looks to be fairly deep behind one of the NFL’s best offensive lines, and that’s without last year’s leading rusher, Darren McFadden. He’s been out nearly three months after breaking an elbow in a household accident.

Defensive tackle Tyrone Crawford is being evaluated for a concussion after hitting his head during practice Sunday. It was the first indoor practice for the Cowboys at their new facility.
