Viking Volleyball fights for win at home
The Siuslaw Vikings are still alone on top of the Far West League Volleyball standings this morning. The Viks edged the Douglas Trojans 3-2 last night in Florence. Marshfield was bumped in three sets by South Umpqua and North Bend easily beat Brookings-Harbor, also in three.
Makenzie York led the team with 21 kills. Coach Jonathan Hornung said York was sick Wednesday and was still not back to 100% by Thursday evening. But, he added, she took control of the match in the fourth and fifth sets, helping the Vikings to the victory. Elyssa Rose added to her stats with 13 kills.
At 4-and-oh in league play, the Vikings are alone at the top of the standings. North Bend is 3-1 in second… those two teams meet Tuesday in North Bend.
