SEAHAWKS-FIT TO BE TIED

Seahawks left with mixed feelings after unlikely tie

RENTON, Wash. (AP) — The first tie in the history of the Seattle Seahawks left Pete Carroll searching for a way to define its meaning.

It certainly wasn’t a loss. Not with the way Seattle’s defense withstood the most difficult of conditions, being subjected to 95 plays by one of the more potent offenses in the NFL and more than 46 exhausting minutes spent on the field.

But it also didn’t feel much like a victory after Steve Hauschka (HOWSH’-kuh) badly missed a 28-yard field goal attempt in the closing seconds of overtime.

So less than 24 hours after walking off the field in Arizona, Carroll was still searching for the proper context to Sunday’s 6-6 tie with the Cardinals.

Carroll told reporters Monday they’re going to put the result in the “extraordinary experience of battling” — and will try to use it as an opportunity to demonstrate who the Seahawks are and what they’re about.

Carroll had reason to be so encouraged after seeing the performance by Seattle’s defense that somehow kept Arizona out of the end zone but left the likes of Bobby Wagner and Richard Sherman severely fatigued after being on the field for 46 minutes and 21 seconds, believed to be the ninth-longest time of possession in a regular-season game. The Seahawks gave up 443 total yards to Arizona, but huge plays in overtime by Earl Thomas, Kelcie McCray and Wagner managed to keep Arizona from finding the end zone and created the situation where Chandler Catanzaro missed a 24-yard field goal attempt that could have won it for the Cardinals.

SEAHAWKS-RAWLS

Carroll: Rawls to resume running this week

SEATTLE (AP) — Seahawks coach Pete Carroll says injured running back Thomas Rawls (leg) will begin running this week with the plan of returning to practice next week before Seattle hosts Buffalo on November 7.

Rawls suffered a hairline fracture in his fibula in Week 2 against Los Angeles.

The day after the Seahawks-Cardinals tie, Carroll also told reporters the team knew about kicker Steven Hauschka’s (HOWSH’-kuhz) struggles at University of Phoenix Stadium.

Coming into Sunday’s game, Hauschka was 12 of 19 on field goal attempts in his career at the stadium. Carroll says the Seahawks didn’t talk about the number very much because they didn’t want it to “happen again.”

T25-WASHINGTON-DYNAMIC DUO

Pettis and Ross giving No. 4 Washington a dynamic duo at WR

SEATTLE (AP) — Jake Browning’s performance through the first seven games rightfully has the Washington quarterback in the Heisman Trophy conversation.

Somewhat lost in what Browning is doing for the fourth-ranked Huskies are the players on the receiving end of those passes — most often the combo of John Ross and Dante Pettis — and the huge chunks of yards they’re claiming after the catch.

Ross and Pettis will be called upon to have big games again when the Huskies (7-0, 4-0 Pac-12) travel to No. 17 Utah on Saturday for one of the most anticipated Pac-12 games of the season.

Last Saturday against Oregon State, Pettis and Ross became the first pair of Washington receivers with more than 100 yards each in the same game since 2002. Ross finished with 115 yards and Pettis had 112, becoming the first duo to accomplish the feat since Reggie Williams and Patrick Reddick in a game against California.

NBA-SAGER

Tributes planned for TNT’s Sager

NEW YORK (AP) — The Golden State Warriors and TNT will begin the season with a tribute to Craig Sager as the sideline reporter continues to battle leukemia.

TNT will unveil a T-shirt during its Tuesday night studio show that was inspired by the suit Sager wore while receiving the Jimmy Valvano Award at this year’s ESPY Awards. The Warriors will then give their fans at their season opener against San Antonio a Sager Strong T-shirt. The team also will play a message in the arena supporting his fight.

The NBA is opening with three games tonight. Cleveland will host the Knicks while the Portland Trail Blazers will open their season at home against Utah.

WORLD SERIES-TICKET PRICES

Want to see World Series at Wrigley? It will cost thousands

CHICAGO (AP) — Fans hoping to see the Cubs play in the World Series for the first time since 1945 are finding a seat could cost them more than what their grandparents paid for their houses.

The euphoria from Saturday night’s victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers gave way Monday to the realization that history doesn’t come cheap.

Wrigley Field box seats on ticket-selling sites such as StubHub were $50,000 and up, with one seller asking $100,000 for a seat and another asking for just under $1 million. But there are lots of box seat tickets in the $5,000 to $10,000 range. Tickets to just get into the park and stand behind those with actual seats were going for more than $2,200 each. List prices for World Series tickets at Wrigley range from $85 to $565, according to Major League Baseball figures.

Jesse Altig, a firefighter in Portland, Oregon, who grew up watching Cubs games on television with his dad in the 1980s, also took to Craigslist. He placed an ad offering to take whoever gives him a ticket on a tour that includes Mt. Hood, the coast of the Pacific Ocean and the fire station where he works.

Altig says he’s a regular guy with a family and mortgage. He says he’s hoping there’s someone “looking for an experience versus a monetary gain.”

Some Chicago fans apparently are going with Plan B and heading to Cleveland, where tickets are also commanding high prices, but not as high as at Wrigley.
