Volleyball playoffs

The Tillamook Cheesemakers edged the Siuslaw Vikings in three tight sets Saturday afternoon in Florence to advance to the OSAA 4A Volleyball Tournament in Forest Grove.  Jordan Long recorded several aces at the service line for Siuslaw.  The Vikings ended the season as Far West League Champions, 13-and-8 overall.

Mapleton XC

The first Mapleton runners to compete in a district Cross Country meet in 29 years completed the course Saturday at Lane Community College in Eugene.  Cole Spencer was 50th overall, Richy Gastelum 56th.

College football:

Justin Herbert match Bill Musgrave’s record for most passing yards Saturday as Oregon snapped a five-game losing streak to beat Arizona State 54-35.  The true-freshman quarterback threw for 489 yards and four touchdowns.  Oregon will travel to Los Angeles Saturday afternoon where they’ll face USC.

Oregon State jumped to a 21-6 first half lead Saturday night in Corvallis.  Washington State scored 22-unanswered points in the third quarter, then held off a late Beaver rally to down Oregon State 35-31.  Oregon State will be at Stanford Saturday night.
