KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) — PORTAND, Ore. (AP) — The Portland Timbers have loaned midfielder Lucas Melano to Atletico Belgrano of Argentina. Melano will be on loan with the top-division team through Dec. 31. The 23-year-old has played in 44 matches with the Timbers since he joined the team midway through the 2015 season. He’s scored four goals with eight assists with the team.

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) — Sporting Kansas City acquired forward Christian Volesky from Portland for a fourth-round draft pick and signed winger Latif Blessing from the Ghana Premier League during a series of moves yesterday. The 24-year-old Volesky is on a one-year contract with options for the next three years. The 20-year-old Blessing is signed through the 2019 season.

UNDATED (AP) — Baylor is No. 1 in The Associated Press men’s basketball poll for the first time. Yesterday’s poll also shows that Villanova dropped to third, and Kansas moved up from third to second. UCLA stayed fourth, while Gonzaga and Kentucky remained fifth and sixth. Duke, Creighton, Florida State and West Virginia rounded out the top 10.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Jiri Hudler scored the tiebreaking goal with 12:16 to play, and the Dallas Stars blew a late two-goal lead before hanging on for a wild 6-4 victory over the Dallas Stars last night. Hudler, Tyler Seguin and Devin Shore had a goal and an assist apiece for the Stars, who snapped a three-game skid despite giving up four goals to the Kings in just over 10 minutes spanning the final two periods.
