Siuslaw boys come away with win at home

Kyle King led scoring with 17 points and the Vikings pulled away in the fourth quarter for a 45-36 Far West League boys’ basketball victory last night over the Douglas Trojans.  The win leaves the boys with a 3-and-1 conference record… tied with Marshfield in second place.  The Pirates beat South Umpqua last night 66-53.  North Bend is on top in first place; they downed Brookings-Harbor 47-33.

For the girls:

The Trojans jumped to an early lead and then held on for a 61-35 win over the Lady Vikings.  At one-and-three in league play Siuslaw is tied with Brookings-Harbor in fourth place.  The Bruins fell to North Bend last night 49-42.  Marshfield doubled down on South Umpqua 60-30.

The Mapleton girls fell to Lowell 53-10 last night in a non-league game.

Prep wrestling Tuesday:

Siuslaw wrestlers were on the mat in Philomath last night for a non-league dual meet where the Warriors came away with a 39-36 team victory.  Only six weight classes were contested and Siuslaw grapplers won four of those.

Winners included Joaquin Cervantes at 145 pounds; Nick Steinman at 170; Clark Hooper at 182; and Matthew Horrillo at 285.   Richard Huff won by forfeit at 113 pounds; Eyza (AY-suh) Abbas also picked up a forfeit at 120 pounds.  Salvador Sierra lost 7-4 at 152 pounds and Riley Jennings lost by fall in the second round at 160.

Siuslaw wrestlers will be at the Bay Cities Classic Friday and Saturday at Marshfield High School.
