Gas Prices Highest Since 2014
Drivers are paying the highest prices for gasoline at the start of a new year since 2014 when pump prices were more than $3 per gallon. High travel volumes over the holidays put upward pressure on prices. In Oregon, the gas tax went up four cents on Jan. 1 to 34 cents a gallon as part of the $5.3 billion transportation funding package that was approved by Oregon lawmakers during the 2017 legislative session. For the week, the national average for regular unleaded gains four cents to $2.49 a gallon while the Oregon average ticks up half a cent to $2.79. here in Florence the average price for a gallon is at $2.59.
Utilities To Go Down…Under That Is
As part of the Revision Florence plan that will be getting underway this summer, utility companies are gearing up to relocate things like power and cable services. Part of the beautification project will require utilities to move underground to improve the aesthetic look of the area.
“Having all those utilities underground will just greatly improve that area.”
City manager Erin Reynolds says she also believes that while the street is being torn up for several projects that the company providing fiber to the area, HYAK, is planning on installing its lines in preparation for providing city wide coverage in the future.
