Vision 2025 Announces New Team

Siuslaw Vision 2025 has announced its new team as it moves toward accomplishing its goal of providing a better quality of life for the region’s residents.  Vision Coordinator is Stephanie Sarles who relocated to Florence with her husband in 2009. Sarles is a 20 year veteran of marketing and public relations.  Joining her on the team as administrative assistant is Lane Community College Dean Russ Pierson.  Daniel Okonski will provide IT support and oversee the newly developed community calendar rivercal.org.  The organization is committed to serving the communities of Deadwood, Mapleton, Dunes City, Swisshome and Florence.

Port Holding Input Session

The Port of Siuslaw will be holding another public input session at 5pm Wednesday February 7th, at the port office conference room.  The board of commissioners is looking for input on projects, improvements and activities that the public would like to see the Port tackle in the near and distant future.  Following the input session the board will then meet in public to consider repairs necessary to the Mo’s restaurant building.  Then immediately following the meeting will dismiss and the board will meet in executive session to review applications for the Port Manager Position.  The Port office is located at 100 Harbor Street.

Water Line and Sewer Work Continue

Crews are working around the clock to install new water and sewer lines along highway 101 and highway 126.  The project is expected to last well into February with portions of the street limitied to one lane of traffic in the northbound section of highway 101.  Overnight crews turned their attention on east bound 126 with that work scheduled to continue for the next 24 – 48 hours.  The new lines are replacing infrastructure that is over 50 years old and is happening in advance of the new Revision Florence project that is expected to begin this August.

State of the City

We will soon get to hear the state of the city as information is gathered to be presented by Mayor Joe Henry.  In the past the city had set aside a time for a celebratory atmosphere but due to the recent event for the main street revolution presentation the city decided to scale back and present the State of the City address for Monday evening’s city council meeting.  City Manager Erin Reynolds

“It should be about a 15 minute presentation highlight the achievements of 2017 and taking a look at the year ahead.”

The meeting will be Monday evening, February 5th at the Florence Event Center.  Reynolds also reminded residents that city services, for the most part will be done at the new facility on kingwood and that the city hall is now closed to all traffic as crews begin an asbestos abatement project.
