14 Vikings Head to State
After a great showing at the Far West League District Championships the Siuslaw Vikings will be sending 14 athletes to compete in the state competition in Eugene tomorrow and Saturday. Track and Field Coach Chris Johnson says a lot of hard work and dedication has paid off for these students. But at state the mind set is different.
“You just kind of have to handle the ebb and flow and if you stay in the moment and stay positive and do what you have been taught and stay competitive, usually things work out pretty well.”
There are several individual events that the students will be competing in including the Javelin in which Ryan Rendon-Padilla holds the longest throw this season and has qualified in the top position. The team of Shoji, Blankenship, Rannow, and Freudenthal will be competing in the 4×400 relay and Rannow, Blankenship and Freudenthal will have solo events as well. Andrea Osbon has qualified to toss the shot put. Anne Wartnick, KC Tatum, Ryan Jennings will also be competing. Competition begins tomorrow morning at 9 am at Hayward Field in Eugene.
