Grenier Receives Brooks Wallace Award

Oregon State junior Cadyn Grenier has been named the winner of the 2018 Brooks Wallace Award, presented annually to the nation’s top collegiate shortstop by the College Baseball Foundation.  Grenier, who has manned short for all 60 of Oregon State’s games this season, is the first Beaver to ever win the honor, and follows in the footsteps of previous recipients Dansby Swanson (2015 – Vanderbilt), Trea Turner (2014 – NC State) and Alex Bregman (2013 – LSU). Grenier is also the first player from the Pac-12 Conference to win the honor.  The Henderson, Nev., native is batting .322 as the Beavers head to Omaha. He’s hit five home runs, driven in 44 runs and has swiped eight bases. Defensively, he leads Oregon State with 142 assists and has committed just six errors for a .973 fielding percentage.  The award adds to Grenier’s trophy list this year. He was named the Pac-12’s Defensive Player of the Year in May and was also selected to the conference’s first team. He was also recognized by Baseball America as a second-team All-American and by D1Baseball.com as a third-teamer. Academically, he was selected as an Academic All-Region First-Teamer by CoSIDA and was also named First-Team All-Academic by the Pac-12.  He was also selected in the first round, 37th overall, by Baltimore in the 2018 MLB First-Year Player Draft by Baltimore in early June.
