Governor’s Press Conference

Governor Kate Brown in her press conference at 11 am today reiterated the information she shared previously in press releases and joint statements from the governors from California and Washington.  Brown was unable to give specifics of a time line on how to get Oregon back open, but said there was a list of things that needed to happen and it will likely take longer than anyone wants it to take.  Brown says the next steps forward will require much more planning and discussion to even get a sense of the timeframe involved.

“My plan is to hold discussions with leaders across the state to discuss the plan further.  We will gather input from health care professionals, public health experts and industries substantially impacted by the stay at home order.”

Brown said certain criteria needed to be met, but when asked about the number of PPE supplies it would take to complete one of her prerequisites.

“We honestly don’t know how much PPE capacity we need.”

She says they are collecting data from hospital and health facility uses, but that needs to expand to other industries like restaurants, nail and hair salons, and other businesses that use PPE for employee and customer safety. In her summary Governor Brown said this will take time and more discussion, and health and science information from reliable sources before a specific timeline can be established.
