There has been some discussion regarding the annual Athlete of the Year celebration for the Mapleton and Siuslaw Schools. The shortened school year has had an impact on Softball, Baseball and Track and Field. Dozens of athletes were unable to participate in their sports and that makes it difficult to move forward with a selection. Members of the athletic departments for both schools, as well as the Siuslaw News and Coast Radio are working on an overall recognition of student athletes without of course a gathering. There were several athletes in each cancelled sport that had the potential of honors and in track and field there was the distinct possibility that at least two athletes were in line to repeat as state champions.
