The term Civil War will no longer be associated with the battles between the Oregon State Beavers and the University of Oregon Ducks. According to a release by Oregon Athletic Communications, both institutions agreed to making the change effective immediately. Both sides sited the sensitivity with the term in light of recent protests around the country and the symbolism the Civil War term generates among different sectors of the public. UO President Michael Schill said that the dropping of the name will not diminish the tough competitive rivalry between the schools.
