COVID-19 Numbers Surge

The Surge of Coronavirus continues across the state.  Over the 4th of July weekend there were 604 new cases of COVID-19 and 6 new deaths reported.  22 of those cases were reported in Lane County bringing the total to 219 cases county wide.  Cases are still very low in Florence with a “less than 10” stipulation on reporting websites.  Reports over the 4th of July weekend in Florence had visitors and some residents still not wearing face coverings in  indoor public spaces in spite of the Governor’s new mandate.  Cases of the coronavirus have been on the increase nationwide and fears that small communities like Florence could be the next to experience increases with summer travel and holiday celebrations.  Oregon’s total count for the virus has exceeded 10,000 and the death toll now stands at 215.

LCC Outlines Fall Plan

Lane Community College has sent its preliminary plan for reopening to the Board of Education.  The plan outlines how the college expects to move forward for the fall.  According to Governor Brown’s executive order, educational institutions must have a plan presented to the state health officials by September 1.  LCC’s current draft of its plan includes face coverings, hand sanitizing and a statement of understanding and agreeing to follow all guidelines set forth by the school which must be signed by students and staff.  The plan is intended for all LCC campuses.  Depending on the path the coronavirus takes, changes could come to the plan.
