Athlete of the Week
The Sports Club, the Siuslaw News and Coast Radio Sports congratulate sophomore volleyball standout Desiree Tupua as this week’s Athlete of the Week. In addition to the previous week’s accomplishments, Desiree continued to perform at a high level in the last two matches of the season. She had 21 kills and 5 blocks against Marshfield and 24 kills and 4 blocks against Cottage Grove. Desiree was instrumental in the Vikings winning season.
Honorable mention is a standout athlete in his own right, Viking Cross Country junior Chad Hughes led the Vikings to a Sky-EM Championship and was the boys individual champion in this past week’s meet.
Beavers Defeat Gonzaga
The Oregon State Beavers defeated Gonzaga last night in Corvallis. Andy Armstrong went 3-4 from the plate and drove in 6 RBI’s in the 11-3 win. Brock Townsend picked up the win for the Beavers with 3 scoreless innings in relief to improve to 2-0 this season. The two teams meet again this evening. The Oregon Ducks also take the field this evening against Portland.
