Athlete of the Week
The Sports Club, the Siuslaw News and Coast Radio sports congratulate junior Siuslaw football player Ian Sissel as this week’s athlete of the week. Ian’s play on both sides of the ball on Friday helped Siuslaw score their first 4-0 start since 2013. on defense Ian had an 87 yard return on a fumble recovery and on offense rushed 7 times for 77 yards while blocking for the offense and contributing to several tackles on the defense that kept the defending state champion Challengers at bay.
Honorable mention goes to Siuslaw Viking senior cross country runner Chad Hughes who took first place in the Woahink Cross Country invitational on Saturday with a time of 17:00.5
Viking Soccer
The Siuslaw Vikings faced Cottage Grove at home last night. Cottage Grove made 6 goals in the first half despite making 25 shots on goal. In the second half Siuslaw held the Lions scoreless on 20 shots on goal scoring once late in the second half as Dylan Jensen slipped past the defense hitting the far corner of the goal. Final 6-1 Lions. JV soccer managed a 2-2 tie against Cottage Grove last night.
