Viking Football; Cross Country Comes in on Top; Cougars Defeat Surging Beavers

Friday night the Siuslaw Vikings held off the hard charging La Pine Hawks to move to 5-0 on the season.  the Vikings led the hawks 20-6 at half time but quickly found themselves in a 26-20 deficit late in the game.  the Vikings tied it up 26 all and then got the ball back for a late score to take the lead 34-26 and win the game.  Coach Sam Johnson credit two linemen for holding off La Pine’s two lineman of the year from last season.  Henry Rankin had two sacks and three tackles for losses and Avery Hart had three sacks and two tackles for loses.  the vikings are ranked first in OSAA 3A.

Cross Country Comes in on Top

Siuslaw Viking Cross Country boys took first place in Saturday’s Paul Mariman Invitational.  Chad Hughes and Sam Ulrich led the team with a first and second place finish respectively with times of 16:32.5 and 16:36.4.  Kyle Hughes finished 7th and Dylan Jensen and Talan Ross finished 12th and 13th.  the viking Girls finished second overall with Rylee Colton taking the second place spot with a time of 19:47.7.  Freshman Addison McNeill finished in 8th place and sophomore Jane Lacouture finished in 13th.

Cougars Defeat Surging Beavers

the OSU Beavers and the Washington State Cougars duked it out on Saturday.  the Beavers came from behind to tie the game with 11:15 to go in the 4th quarter but the Cougars drove 75 yards in 12 plays using up 5:50 on the clock to take the lead for good defeating the Beavers 31-24.
