Athlete of the Week
The Sports Club, the Siuslaw News and Coast Radio sports congratulate senior Mapleton Basketball Player Jahala Blake as this week’s Athlete of the Week. Jahala worked to help get the Sailors into the 1A basketball playoffs and contributed 10 points 4 blocked shots and 14 rebounds to the Sailors last second 2nd round win over Triangle Lake.
Honorable mention goes to the Viking Co-ed Cheer team for their fourth place finish in the state championships over the weekend. Featuring four seniors, Alexia Clark, Haylee Cole, Dante Galli, and Brooke Olson.
Viking Wrestling
Siuslaw senior Hayden Muller is seeded #3 at this week’s state wrestling tournament in the 135 pound weight class and will be joined by fellow lady wrestler freshman Macali Lade who is unseeded in the 110 pound weight class. On the boy’s side junior Mason Buss is seeded #6 at 160 pounds and will be joined by fellow Vikings junior Yoskar De la Mora (126), sophomore Dayne Muller (195), sophomore Cort Waggoner (230) and freshman Joel Sissel (170). The Championships for boys will take place Saturday at Cascade High School in Turner. Siuslaw Girls will compete Thursday at Culver High School.
