Vikings-Junction City
The Siuslaw Vikings were defeated in their season opener double header 5-1 and 11-2 by the Junction City Tigers. In game one it was a 4 run 7th inning that made the difference for the Vikings. Ethan Halpin pitched 6 and a 1/3 innings giving up 4 hits. In game two Isaac Garza gave up 7 runs on 5 hits in just 2 innings. The Tigers set the pace scoring another 4 runs in the 4th.
Prefontaine Invite
On Saturday the Siuslaw Vikings had a limited showing for the Prefontaine Rotary Invite in Coos Bay. Senior Chad Hughes took 4th place in the mile with a personal record time of 4:44.41 with sophomore Talen Ross following in 6th at 5:00.33 also a personal record time. For the girls it was senior Riley Colton finishing in 4th for the mile with a PR time of 5:26.15. Freshman Macy McNeill finished in 9th. Kyle Hughes and Camp Lacouture finished in 5th and 6th place in the Pole Vault both clearing 12’6” the Vikings will host the Central Coast Invitational this Friday.
Beaver Baseball
The Oregon State Beavers swept Long Beach State over the weekend 3-1 on Friday, 8-2 on Saturday and finishing up yesterday with a 14-3 victory. They play two games against Gonzaga before returning to Pac-12 play on Friday against Washington.
Duck Baseball
The Oregon Ducks culminated their 3 game sweep of Washington on Sunday with an extra inning victory. It looked as though the Ducks would end it in the top of the 10th with a solo homer by left fielder Tanner Smith, but the Huskies answered back with a solo homer of their own by catcher Johnny Tincher. In the 11th it was a single by center fielder Colby shade with 2 men on that put the Ducks in the lead. The Huskies went down in the bottom with a strike out and a walk and two fly balls.
