Road Work
Road work on 9th street finishes up this week as cleanup of the project continues. There is still striping left to be done. This week the City of Florence moves on to two other road projects. Beginning tomorrow portions of the roadway on 10th and 12th street will receive chip seal in the Nopal and Maple area the following week crews will be on Spruce Street from 37th to 42nd Street. Continue to use caution in work areas.
DMV Closure
Staffing continues to be an issue for many businesses around Florence as the Oregon Department of Motor Vehicle announced yesterday that due to low staff levels the DMV location here in Florence will have to be closed on Wednesday. For now this is a one day closing. No further information could be obtained as to whether this will be an ongoing closure, or just a one time event.
National Night Out
The Florence Police Department will host the annual National Night out two weeks from today. Law enforcement agencies from Florence, Lane County and the Oregon State Police will attend as well as the US Coast Guard and members of the West Lane Fire and EMS Authority. There will be free hot dogs and hamburgers and ice cream along with several inflatable play areas for the kids and the popular Dunking booth returns. This is a family friendly event alcohol and smoking is not allowed. The city also requests that you do not bring your pets. The event will be at Miller Park from 6-9 pm.
Doc Talk
Coast Radio’s Doc Talk Program sponsored by PeaceHealth will look at the topic living in the new COVID-19 paradigm. Head of the Peace Harbor Emergency Department Dr. Willie Foster and CAO of Peace Harbor Jason Hawkins will talk about how things will look moving forward and how the effect of the new BA.5 variant of the virus is affecting individuals. The program airs on KCFM at 10:05 on Thursday and at 12:10 on Sunday on KCST.
