Viking Soccer

Despite 9 saves by Derrick Vanduch at the goal the Siuslaw Vikings were stumped by an offensive style they hadn’t seen so far this season.  The Vikings boys soccer scored first with an in-the-box shot by Braydon Linton, but three scored by Crosshill Christian/Jefferson was insurmountable for the Viks. Final score 1-3.

Viking Girls were at Pleasant Hill last night and were defeated 0-6

Volleyball

Siuslaw Volleyball will be at Creswell this evening with a 5pm JV start and Varsity at 6:30.

Mapleton Volleyball is scheduled to be at Mohawk this afternoon at 4pm.

Mapleton Football

The Mapleton Sailor Football team will be on the field at home this evening for a rare Thursday night game.  There was a difficiulty finding enough officials for tomorrow night so the game was moved.  The Sailors will be broadcast this evening at 6:45 on KCFM 104.1 and 103.1 in Mapleton.

Football Air Quality

The air quality for Friday night’s football matchup between Siuslaw and La Pine is being monitored.  That’s according to Siuslaw High School Athletic Director Chris Johnson.  The Oregon School Activities Association has very clear guidelines requiring the cancellation or moving all outdoor activities if the Air Quality Index, as measured by the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality, rises above 150.  Air quality due to wildfire smoke in and around La Pine has been high for the past several days, reaching a peak of 455 early Monday morning.  A shift in the winds caused the smoke to begin and the AQI to begin falling. As of 3:00 yesterday afternoon (wed) it had fallen to 104.  But, if it rises again by Friday evening it could cause the game to be delayed or moved.  Ultimately, Johnson says it is up to the home team to make any alternative arrangements.  They also must follow OSAA requirements.
