Athlete of the Week
The Sports Club, the Siuslaw News and Coast Radio Sports congratulate senior Mapleton volleyball standout Helen Burruss as this week’s Athlete of the Week. Helen was a key player in Mapleton’s defeat of Siletz Valley in a tight match. Helen closed out the 4th set coming from a 24-20 deficit and then clinched the victory in the 5th set. Helen also had 4 aces and 2 kills in the victory.
Honorable Mention goes to freshman harrier Alison Hughes. Alison finished in 6th place among 103 runners in the Rose City Championship Invitational with a time of 20:36.80, leading the Vikings to a second place finish.
Viking Soccer
It was a tough fought defensive battle on the soccer field as the Vikings boys tried to hold back the Elmira Falcons. The Falcons scored first in the first half leading 1—0 at the half. The Vikings scored twice in the second half but the falcons answered with 2 of their own taking the win 3-2. The Viking girls were in La Pine but were defeated 6-1
