Storm Ready
If you are planning travel over the holiday weekend there could be a lot of delays. Airports are currently experiencing a lot of delays and cancellations with winter storms blanketing much of the U.S. beginning today high winds and icy conditions will come as far west as Mapleton with an Ice Storm Warning set for areas just east of Florence. The National Weather Service is strongly urging people to stay at home with conditions worsening through the day today beginning at about noon local time. Light snow and ice with accumulations of up to a half of an inch could be on the roadways and effect trees and power lines. That in conjunction with high winds expected of up to 35 miles per hour could make travel very dangerous. Work crews from Central Lincoln PUD will be on alert through the night. If you have to travel, make sure you have extra supplies with you like food, water and blankets. Make sure to include a flashlight. There is also the possibility of power outages. The warning is expected to be lifted by 7 am tomorrow morning.
Safe Driving
Over the past several days the Oregon State Police and county sheriff’s offices have been responding to fatal crashes around the state reminding everyone of the need to drive carefully. With the onset of winter weather there is expected to be more treacherous conditions on the roadways. If you are traveling through snowy conditions and mountain passes be sure to have the proper tires or snow chains available. Ski areas are happy for the recent winter weather with areas like mount Bachelor and Willamette Pass seeing significant totals. Willamette has had 12 inches of new snow in the past 7 days while mount Bachelor is reporting a 43 inch depth and 5 inches in the last 24 hours.
Elks Christmas Dinner
On Sunday the Elks Lodge 1858 will open its doors to the public for a community Christmas Dinner, the annual tradition will be from noon until 3 pm. The dinner is complimentary and will feature all the trimmings. The lodge is located at 1686 12 street.
New App for Heart Attack
There is a new app coming for your phone. The PeaceHealth Peace Harbor Medical center is partnering with Western Lane Fire and EMS Authority to bring you PulsePoint. The app will alert users of anyone experiencing a cardiac incident within a quarter mile. It is designed to improve bystander performance and increase resident support. The app will also alert anyone to the closest automated external defibrillator. The PulsePoint App is available on Google Play and at the iPhone App Store. The service will come online on January 9th.
