Pet Chipping and Vaccines

Pet owners who want to get their furry family member microchipped, or vaccinated can get that done Saturday, February 18th at the Oregon Coast Humane Society.  Executive director Elizabeth Thompson says pet owners can buy most vaccines over the counter or online and give the shots themselves.

“If you’re brave enough to do that, but the rabies you have to have done by a vet.  These vets in our town, they’re exceptional, but they’re at capacity.”

There is a small charge, but in order to speed the process Thompson say you’ll need to come to the shelter ahead of time, or call 541-997-4277 and make an appointment.

“We’re doing all the paperwork up front so that as soon as we get that microchip done and that rabies shot and any other vaccines done then we can get you your rabies certificate and we can get you all your microchip papers, and we can enter that for you.”

That’s another time saver as you won’t have to call an 800 number and do it yourself.

Fatal Wreck

A Coquille man died Thursday morning in a crash on Highway 101 just south of Reedsport.  According to the Oregon State Police, 36-year old Dustin Ray Fish was travelling northbound near milepost 213 when his car crossed the centerline and crashed head-on with a pickup towing a trailered Boat.  Fish was taken to Lower Umpqua Hospital where he died.  The driver of the pickup was also transported to the hospital for treatment.  Police did not release that person’s identity.

Test Result Removed

The Oregon Health Authority is reporting that people who want to use the anti-viral COVID-19 medications Paxlovid or Lagevrio no longer have to have a positive COVID-19 test in order to get the drug.  The FDA has lifted the testing requirement as of February first.  The medications are for those with mild to severe symptoms of the covid virus or who are at high risk of severe illness.

Beach Hazards

Stormy weather off the Oregon coast is causing rough seas and a beach hazard statement has been issued by the National Weather Service for the potential of sneaker waves.  Beaches can be extremely dangerous with sneaker waves present.  It is recommended that you do not get near the water and keep children and pets close.  The statement is in effect until tomorrow afternoon.
