Viking Baseball

On Friday the Siuslaw Vikings traveled to Bend to take on the La Pine Hawks in baseball.  The Hawks handily defeated the Vikings in the first game of the doubleheader: 26-1.  The Vikings committed 6 errors and managed only 5 hits.  A series of walks in the first inning by starting pitcher Joel Sissel led to a 4 run lead for the Hawks.  The hawks then added 10 in the second inning and 12 in the third.  Game two brought out the fight in the Vikings and they went in to the bottom of the 7th inning with a 5-4 lead.  The Hawks capitalized on a Viking misstep and scored two in the bottom of the 7th to win the game.  While it was a loss for the Vikings, coach Tom Shinn said pitcher Noah Dotson turned in another strong outing and a complete game.

Viking Softball

After a pair of losses to the Hawks, the Viking ladies hammered out a win on Saturday at Caldera High School.  The Vikings swung hard a toppled the Hawks 18-4.

Mapleton Softball

Elmira/Mapleton softball split a double header with Junction City/Triangle Lake losing the first game 11-5 but taking the late game 11-2.

Prefontaine Invitational

In Track and Field, senior Sam Ulrich put out an early season record run in the 800 meter with a second place finish: time-1:58.02  he also ran a 51 flat for his part of the 4×400 relay in the Vikings first place finish.  Hunter Petterson took third in the 200 meters 23.61 and a third place finish in the 400 meters. Senior Kyle Hughes took second in the 3000 meters with a time of 9:24.98.  Hughes also set another personal record in the Pole Vault at 14’3”.  Freshman Will Johnson hit a personal record 11’.

Johnson also took first place in the Triple Jump with a personal record of 40’6”  for the Ladies junior Corduroy Holbrook took third in the 800 meter 2:32.72 and Maya Wells took third in the mile 5:49.10.  Freshman Allison Hughes set a personal record in the 3000 meter with a second place finish: time: 11:24.84.

Beaver/Duck Baseball

The Oregon State Beavers broke the Oregon Ducks win streak.  After a heartbreaking 2-0 loss on Friday the Beavers rallied to take the next two games.  Saturday 4-2 and Easter Sunday after a run scored in the first the Beavers loaded up the bases for Gresham native Wilson Weber.
