Change to Moderate Fire Level for Some Parts of Siuslaw Forest

Burn Season closed last week for Lane County and closes today for Coos County and already the US Forest Service has moved conditions to moderate.  This will effect the Siuslaw and Willamette National forests.  The risk of fire is increasing with dryer, warmer temperatures and the forest service is serving notice that the public needs to be extra vigilant on forest lands.  Eric Miller with the US Forest Service says they have already had small fires to contend with on National Forest managed lands.  He adds that there are currently no public use restrictions in place, but that people should be properly prepared when extinguishing campfires.  Always check local conditions before heading out for camping.  Here along the coast in Western Lane County conditions are currently low.

Highway 38 Delays

The Oregon Department of Transportation is reporting a populare scenic route will have delays for about a week as crews clean up a fuel tanker spill that happened on highway 38 near Drain.  An accident occurred early on Wednesday morning and a significant amount of fuel was spililed in the area.  The cleanup site is about halfway between Elkton and Drain.  The road is currently open but delays of up to 20 minutes are expected.

Happiness Among the States

There is actually a study out that ranks states by happiness levels.  The states are ranked in areas of employment, leisure activities, mental health, social policies and other categories.  It may be interesting to note that Oregon is the 18th happiest place to live, yet in mental health it ranks 42nd .  on the top of the list is Massachusetts followed by Illinois and Connecticut. Falling at the bottom of the list at number 50 is west Virginia. Arkansas is 49th and 48th is Louisiana.
