Fundraiser For Funeral Expenses

The late-night crash north of Florence Saturday that claimed the life of 31-year old Logan Scott has left family members and co-workers of the man in shock.  Maranda West, Scott’s boss at Mini-Pet Mart is “reeling”, saying he was loved by everyone who came into contact with him.  She and Logan Scott went back many years

“Even before Mini-PetMart, I worked with him at Subway for years.  And, he was a really good guy. He was my bud.”.

The staff at Mini Pet Mart want to help Scott’s mother with funeral and ongoing expenses.

“We want to do everything we can for her.  She’s a really amazing person, he loved her to pieces.”

West asked the mother’s name not be publicized in order to protect her privacy as she is grieving.  Donations for the Logan Scott” fund can be left at Mini Pet Mart.  Scott was in his car at the stop sign on Sutton Lake Road at Highway 101 just after ten pm Saturday when a truck driven by a California man left the northbound lane and struck Scott’s car broadside, killing the Florence man instantly.

Fireworks Safety

With the Independence Day holiday rapidly approaching, Fire Chief Michael Schick has some reminders for people using legal fireworks.  One of the biggest mistakes?

“They don’t look at their surroundings.  Even legal fireworks put out a lot of sparks, a lot of embers.  They get into some of this dry grass or dry brush that is surrounding them and it could easily start a fire.”

Another common error comes when people dispose of spent fireworks.  Too many times, Schick says, instead of submerging them in water before disposing, they simply put them in a garbage container.

“All it takes is just confined area like a dumpster or a garbage can and yeah, it could easily start burning.”

That could unfortunately lead to a larger fire that damages your home or a business structure.

Gas Prices Continue Rising

Oil prices continue to be slightly declining, but the proof is not in the pumps. Oregon continues to add pennies to the gallon despite crude prices hovering around $67 a barrel.  Marie Dodds with AAA Oregon says it is still the Olympic pipeline maintenance that is driving costs higher on this side of the U.S. while eastern states saw a decrease in price the western state are seeing significant increases with Oregon jumping another $.06 cents this week.  Oregon moved up to the 4th highest gas prices in the nation at $4.64 a gallon will Florence prices rise to $4.47 on average for regular.

Missing Children
