National Night Out

The City of Florence will welcome community members to the annual National Night Out tomorrow evening at Miller Park.  The annual event is to bring the community and local law enforcement together.  It is a night of food and entertainment and the Florence Police Department will be on hand as well as other city staff, Western Lane Fire and EMS, the United States Coast Guard and other law enforcement agencies.  There is a no smoking and no alcohol policy in place for Miller Park and attendees are asked to please observe this policy.  Hamburgers, hotdogs, chips and sodas will be provided, a DJ and games for the kids.  The event is from 6 to 9 pm.

Electric Rates

The rate you pay for electricity from Central Lincoln PUD will likely remain steady for at least the next two years.  The Bonneville Power Administration, which supplies most of the power used by Central Lincoln Customers, has announced that “tier one” wholesale rates will remain flat at least through October 1st of 2025.  BPA Administrator and CEO John Hairston says the rates are enough to generate enough net revenue to hedge against cost increases as well as to allow the publicly owned agency to continue to repay  U.S. Treasury debt on time.

Alumni Association Fund-Raiser

The annual scholarship fund-raising dinner and reunion for the Siuslaw Alumni Association in September is open to anyone who graduated, had family members that graduated, or even employees of Siuslaw High School who may have worked there over the years.  The dinner is coming up Saturday, September 16th at the Florence Events Center.  Proceeds from the night fund three annual scholarships for grads at Siuslaw of $3,500 each year.  All tickets must be purchased in advance and are $50 per person.  That includes an annual membership in the association.  For a registration form, call Melissa Phillips at 541-999-1049.

Mushroom Permits

If you are in to foraging for mushrooms along the central Oregon Coast and possibly making a little money doing it, the U.S. Department of Agriculture has opened commercial permitting for Matsutake mushrooms.  There are only 100 commercial permits offered annually at a cost of $250.00.  anyone gathering more than 6 of the fungi a day is required to have a commercial permit. Permit applications are available online at fs.usda.gov.

Air Quality Outlook

The 24 hour air quality outlook for western Lane County is good despite fires creating smoke to the south.  The Lane Regional Air Protection Agency reports that most of the area will be free of smoke though eastern Lane County has an air quality alert.  They are also projecting good air quality for Eugene/Springfield.
