Track and Field District Championships
The Siuslaw Viking Track and Field teams completed the special district championships on Friday. The Viking Boys were crowned champions for the district with the girls finishing in second place. The boys dominated, scoring 85 points more than their closest rival Sisters. Wesley Nicholls finished as the district champion in the 200 and 400 meter races and he did so with 2 personal record times. Dylan Jensen was champion in the 800 meter with Derrick Vanduch finishing in Second place. Braydon Linton was the champion in the 1500 and 3000 meter races. Kale Jensen won the championship in the 110 and 300 meter hurdles. Derrick Vanduch finished second in the 300. Both the boys 4×100 and 4×400 teams were also crowned champions. Will Johnson also won the Triple Jump with a pr of 13.18 meters. For the girls Maya Wells won the 1500 meter race and Alison Hughes and Addison McNeill qualified for state with a second and third place finish in the 3000. Jane Lacouture won the Shot put with an 11 meter toss and sister Danin finished in second. Both qualify for the state tournament. other championships from field events were reported on Friday.
Viking Baseball/Softball
The Viking baseball team dropped both games of their double header Friday against the Billies of Pleasant Hill. 15-1 and 12-2. According to OSAA 17 3A teams will be selected for the playoffs and currently Siuslaw is ranked 16th. Siuslaw still has one double header left on Wednesday against Harrisburg. Siuslaw Softball also dropped both games on Friday against Pleasant Hill. They still have three games left, one against La Pine and a double header against Harrisburg. The LaPine game will be played tomorrow at Elmira.
D-1 Baseball
The Oregon State Beavers took all three games in their series at home against UCLA. Yesterday’s game was stopped in the 7th inning with the beavers up 15-1.
The Oregon Ducks took the series from the Washington Huskies after losing game one on Friday. The Ducks won the next two finishing with 5-3 victory yesterday. The Beavers have one series left against the Arizona Wildcats and the Ducks will finish out the regular season at home against the Washington State Cougars.
