Scams

Scammers are constantly looking to find ways to get your personal information, financial information and your money.  The Douglas County sheriff’s office is reporting that another round of impersonations is happening.  They are receiving reports from the public that persons impersonating Douglas County Sheriff’s officials are threatening individuals with a warrant for their arrest if they do not immediately pay fines incurred from various made up offenses like missing jury duty, failed court appearance or unpaid tickets.  There had been similar reports in the past from the Lane County Sheriff’s office. Software available can actually reflect an actual number for law enforcement.  Law enforcement officials, according to Douglas County sheriff’s Lt. Brad O’dell says these type of tactics are never used by legitimate agencies and that you should report any suspicious communications whether it is by phone, email, mail, or text.  O’dell also says it is important to share this information with those that may be more vulnerable to attacks, such as the elderly.

Fishing Dock Repairs

Work on repairing winter storm damage to the popular Windy Cove Crab and Fishing Dock near the mouth of the Umpqua River in Winchester Bay is moving closer.  A permit application including construction and engineering plans was submitted this week to the Oregon Division of State Lands. A public notice is expected to be posted in early July for a mandatory 30-day public comment period.  High water and stormy seas damaged the dock in January and February.  Douglas County Parks closed it as a safety precaution.    Tamara Howell, Community Engagement Specialist with Douglas County says they hope to award a bid for the work in late August with work expected to begin sometime in September.
