Charity Bike Ride
The Texas 4000 charity bike ride rode into Florence yesterday. The ride is the longest charity ride for cancer. The group started in Austin Texas and is heading to Anchorage Alaska. The ride is broken up amongst three routes with the second and third groups traversing the Rockies and the Ozarks. The rides raise money for cancer research and support services. The Florence Elks Lodge hosted their group last night with dinner at the lodge and camping at their north camping grounds near Sutton Lake. The group heads out today for Eugene. Every year the University of Texas competitively selects students for the rides. Students must raise $4,500 each, complete a 2,000 mile training ride and devote 50 hours to community service.

The Ems were down 2-1 through 8 innings until a 5 run 8th fueled their victory. The Ems, Thomas Gavello capped the scoring with a 3 run home run. The series continues from PK park this evening.
