Community Survey Results

The city of Florence has released the results of its 2024 Community Survey Report.  The information was compiled over the last several months and covers 10 main areas that compose a livability factor of Florence.  831 residents responded to the survey.  Some of the areas noted are Public Safety.  The majority of residents feel safe in their neighborhoods.  Many of the areas covered revealed positive aspects of Florence life, though some areas needed improvement based on responses.  Child Care, recreational and educational programs for youth and family, and job opportunities and economic development were all noted for improvement.  The city has released the results of the survey and it can be found on the city’s website at ci.florence.or.us.

Financial Reporting

The city of Florence has received accolades for its financial reporting. The Government Finance Officers Association has recognized the city for its annual comprehensive financial report for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2023. The report is judged by an impartial panel who looks at all aspects of financial reporting and determines how well the city compiles all the information.  The city was specifically noted in the “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story according to the release.

Burn Ban Extension

The latest information from the Lane Regional Air Protection Agency says the earliest that fall burning will be allowed will be October 15th.  the season typically begins on October 1st but some areas of the county are still experiencing dry conditions that make burning dangerous.  The decision to delay comes from the Lane County Fire Defense Board and the Oregon Department of Forestry.  Matt Sorensen with LRAPA says the decision is to ensure that conditions are favorable county wide following a very challenging fire season.  Debris burning prior to the date could result in fines from $50 to $2,500 or more.  Information on the burn restrictions are available on the LRAPA Website.
