Viking Football

Tonight the Siuslaw Vikings will face the Dayton Pirates on Hans Petersen Field for the first round of the state playoffs.  Coach Sam Johnson says he prepares the team by not focusing on the playoff aspect of the game.

“we’re going to show up like its week one or we’re going to show up like its week 5 and we’re going to play a high school game on a Friday night.  And that is something you guys do better than 99.9% of the people in the world, so that’s what we’re going to do, that’s what you prepared months to do.”

Johnson says a lot of people make big deals about big games, but he tries to keep the player perspective on the fact that it is something they do week to week, and tonight is just another chance to do it.  KCST will cover the game beginning at 6:45 this evening.

Cross Country

The viking Cross Country team will be on the course tomorrow in Eugene for the OSAA State Championships.  Athletic Director and Cross Country coach Chris Johnson says both the boys and the girls teams qualified and 7 boys and 6 girls will compete for the state title. 3A competition for the girls will start at 10:35 and the boys 3A will begin at 11:10.  The race will be run at Lane Community College in Eugene.
