Viking Wrestling
Over the Weekend the Siuslaw Wrestlers were at the Devon Invitational. Senior Leo Robertson won a title in the 157 pound class going undefeated. Junior Jacob Mann also went 3-0 to claim the 215 pound class. Siuslaw place third among 16 schools.
For the Siuslaw ladies it was a second place overall finish with three wrestlers taking individual titles. Senior Macali Lade pinned all three of her opponents as did fellow senior Tosha Abraham. Junior Danin Lacouture was 2-0 on the day taking the 145 pound title. Senior Abby Riggs was 3-1 earning a third place finish.
Mapleton Basketball
The Mapleton Sailors wrapped up the Mapleton Winter Classic with a narrow 49-45 loss to Toledo in the championship game. Senior Alex Burnett led the Sailors with 21 points, while Dom Stewart added 11 points and dominated the boards with 18 rebounds. The Sailors reached the championship after a strong semifinal win over Siletz Valley, powered by Burnett’s 24 points and a double-double from sophomore Roenin Barrows. In their first-round victory against Monroe, the Sailors showcased stifling defense, holding Monroe scoreless in the third quarter. Now 2-1 on the season, the Sailors will look to rebound against Oakridge this Tuesday.
Rose Bowl Bound
The Oregon Ducks will play in the Rose Bowl on January 1st against either Tennessee or Ohio State. The Ducks won the Big Ten Championship on Saturday 45-37, keeping the #1 Ranking into the college football playoffs.
The ducks Men’s basketball team lost their first game on a last second three pointer by the UCLA Bruins. On Saturday the Oregon State Beavers defeated Idaho 78-62
