Siuslaw Basketball

The school that kept Siuslaw from advancing in football met the Siuslaw Vikings of Friday night.  North Valley hosted the Vikings in a non League game that saw the Vikings in some small way avenge the loss of their football team.  The Vikings defeated the knights 73-65.  The team will be at home tomorrow evening to take on Waldport, a game that will be broadcast on KCST. The Viking girl’s were not as fortunate against the Knights.  North Valley outscored the Vikings 45-12.  The girls will be up first tomorrow evening against Waldport at 5:30.  Coast Radio will begin coverage at 5:15 on KCST and on the Coast Radio App.

Siuslaw Wrestling

Siuslaw High School’s wrestling team had a strong showing at the Coast Classic tournament in North Bend over the weekend, with senior Macali Lade and junior Jacob Mann claiming individual championships in their respective divisions. Lade secured a victory in the girls 120-pound final with a 6-3 decision over Mia Petersen, a junior from Redmond. Senior Abby Riggs also excelled, earning second place in the same weight class. In the boys competition, Mann triumphed in the 215-pound final with a dominant 20-7 major decision against Crater junior Travis Ege. The Siuslaw girls’ team, featuring six athletes, finished 10th out of 38 schools, earning 78.5 points. Redmond led the girls’ standings with 239.5 points from their 18-member team. On the boys’ side, Siuslaw’s five competitors placed 19th among 41 teams, tallying 47.5 points. Crater’s 14 wrestlers took first place with 289.5 points. The Vikings are set to compete this Friday and Saturday at the Grants Pass Winter Kick-Off.

Mapleton Basketball

The Mapleton Sailor boy’s basketball team improved to 3-2 with a victory over Perrydale on Friday 51-33. The Mapleton girls lost in a close battle with Perrydale falling short 42-44.

The Oregon Ducks improved to 10-1 with a defeat of Stephen F. Austin last night in Eugene 79-51.  The Beavers on Saturday put away UC Irvine 67-55
